White Rocks Purchase Celebration & Hike
Come celebrate the purchase and perpetual preservation of almost 1,000 acres of critical landscape on and near South Mountain in Cumberland County, in the vicinity of the world famous Appalachian National Scenic Trail (AT)!! The celebration will begin at 1 p.m., at Monroe Township Park. The lead organizer is Appalachian Trail Conservancy, the overall steward of the AT.
Following the celebration, at 2:30 p.m., Cumberland Valley Appalachian Trail Club (CVATC) will lead a hike on the AT. This four mile hike will show the ecological significance of White Rocks. We will explore the significance of the White Rocks habitat with State Wildlife Biologist Aura Stauffer and the Valley’s local trail club. Learn about the properties history and significance to the Appalachian Trail through club members and the ATC. Please bring snacks, proper foot wear, and become prepared for inclement weather. Susquehanna AT Club will lead another hike before the Celebration, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
