The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners will meet Thursday morning January 19th at 10 a.m. at Business Central (across the parking lot from the Carlisle Post Office).  The Commissioners must certify the level of County commitment to preserve farmland for the next year to the State Department of Agriculture by January 31st.

The Agricultural Land Preservation Board voted to request a County commitment of $500,000.  That level would realize a State match totaling approximately $1,000,000.  It is critical to understand that the State match funds represent taxes we will pay the State irrespective of the County commitment.  The County commitment simply brings our own tax dollars for agricultural land preservation back to our County rather than going for the same purposes to other counties.

We would request people’s consideration of attending the meeting to show your support for our agricultural community and environment.
