Yes, it’s hot in early August, so let’s do an evening hike just two days after the full moon. On Friday night, August 3, we’ll do a 6 mile triangular loop hike at a moderate pace climbing up Blue Mountain, then walking along the ridge before returning to where we started. We’ll start on the Appalachian Trail at Route 850, in Perry County, heading south up Blue Mountain to the Darlington Shelter for a break. After the break, we’ll continue on the Darlington Trail to Miller Gap, then head down Miller Gap Road (a quiet dirt road) back to the parking area. Bring a flashlight or head lamp, plenty of water and snacks. Wear broken in hiking shoes or boots.
This hike is part of the 75th Anniversary celebration of the completion of the Appalachian Trail. Follow THIS LINK for more information on 75th Anniversary festivities.
Meet at EITHER the parking lot next to the Sovereign Bank in the Camp Hill Mall, at 7:30 pm, OR at the Route 850 Appalachian Trail parking lot at 8 pm.
HERE is a link to the Camp Hill Mall meeting place. Note that the Route 850 parking lot is pretty small, so please carpool from Camp Hill Mall or elsewhere if you can.
