CVATC, along with our sister club Susquehanna Appalachian Trail Club (SATC), offers the CapitalRegion Hiking Program. Click this link for the current schedule of hikes and other activities.
CVATC is also pleased to publicize the hiking schedules of our colleagues at Mountain Club of Maryland (MCM) and York Hiking Club (YHC).
These two fine organizations maintain sections of the Appalachian Trail in Central Pennsylvania. MCM has the sections just north and south of our section in the Cumberland Valley. YHC maintains the section just north of Duncannon. Each club sponsors a series of group hikes led by a responsible leader.
HERE is a link to MCM's public schedule of hikes and other events. All attendees are asked to sign a liability waiver. Note that some non-MCM members may be asked to pay a small fee to attend these hikes, but we understand the fee won't apply to CVATC members.
HERE is a link to YHC's schedule of hikes and other events.
We recommend that you NOT drink water from a source on the trail unless it has been treated or comes from a trusted source such as a municipal water system. Ways of treatment include boiling, water filters and chemical treatment. Click here for a link to an ATC article on food, water and sanitation.
